A story of perseverance, courage and hope as three burqa clad women take charge of their lives, something they have never done before. Director: Juhi Bhatt Juhi is a freelance filmmaker based in Mumbai. Her active involvement in college theater in Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University and subsequent training in filmmaking from AJK MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia enabled her to pursue her interest in storytelling. She has worked on documentaries, television commercials, TV shows and corporate films over the last eight years. Her work themes include- women and child issues, environment, urban infrastructure, basic income scheme and financial literacy in rural areas. About the Film

The Girls are not Brides’ is a documentary film on early child marriage. Child marriage is a strong social custom in Bangladesh and has the fourth highest rate of child marriage in the world. Due to cultural setting, girls are regarded here as an economic burden and are expected to marry very young. So, for millions of girls in Bangladesh, marriage comes so soon and the damage follows them throughout their lives.

Mr. KM Taj-Biul Hasan is the main director and Ms. Novera Hasan Nikkon & Ms. Shyfoon Naher are the co-directors respectively . KM Taj-Biul Hasan is an Educational Film & Television Program maker as well as researcher and trainer. He has been in this profession since 1993. He mainly works on human rights and environment issues.

Ms. Novera Hasan Nikkon is an under graduate student of Fine Arts Dept. of The Jagannath University , Dhaka,Bangladesh. She has been attached with “Dhrupad Communication” since 2013 as an Assistant Producer /Director. She did the main research & the production planning of the film “The Girls are not Brides”. Her submitted proposal of this film got the Best proposal award ‘Hoso Bunka Foundation Prize’ in the NHK Japan Prize-2016 competition.

Ms. Shyfoon Naher is an enlisted TV script writer of Bangladesh Open University since 1996. She worked in a good number of films and television productions as script writer and associate director. Ms. Naher has participated some International media event home and abroad such as in India, Nepal & Malaysia.
