When does DCSAFF take place?

DCSAFF takes place annually in the month of September. The eighth edition of DCSAFF will take place from September 20th to 22nd, 2019. 

Why celebrate South Asian cinema in Washington, D.C.?

Washington, D.C. is the capital of the United States and one of the most visited cities in the world. DCSAFF provides filmmakers an opportunity to reach out to a potential 600,000 South Asians living in the tri-state area. 

What makes attending a DCSAFF screening different from a regular movie screening?

The films screened at DCSAFF are chosen from hundreds of submissions and many are North American, International or World Premieres. Furthermore, the director or members of the cast are often on hand for a Q & A following the screening. 

Where will DCSAFF events and screenings take place?

All events will take place at Montgomery College, Rockville Campus at 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville, MD 20850.

Movies will be located at: Robert E Parilla Performance Center and the Music Recital Hall

Opening Red Carpet and Dinner will be located at: Theater Arts (TA) building

Acting Workshop and History and Genre of Films Workshop will be located in: Theater Arts (TA) building

Which films do you recommend?

The DCSAFF program showcases a wide genre of films from various South Asian countries. While some films are previews of the finest in contemporary world cinema, others are rare gems that can only be seen at DCSAFF. We recommend you look through the festival schedule to find a combination of films that will suit your tastes and broaden your horizons.

Are the films rated?

Many of the films showcased at DCSAFF have not yet been reviewed by the Motion Picture Association of America and therefore do not have a MPAA rating (G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17). 

Is the festival a competitive event?

Yes. DCSAFF is an international competition that will screen films over 3 days, including world premieres, features, documentaries and shorts. The Festival will present awards in eight distinct categories:

  • Best Actor
  • Best Actress
  • Best Story
  • Best Short Film
  • Audience Award Best Film
  • Audience Award Best Short Film

How can I submit a film?

Before submitting your film, please read the eligibility criteria. If you are unsure whether your film meets DCSAFF requirements please contact the festival before submitting your film.

If you are unable to meet the late submission deadline, please contact DCSAFF at info@dcsaff and tell us of your intent to send a late entry.

How can I make payment for my submission?

Submission fees can be paid via PayPal. If you are unable to pay the entry fee through PayPal please contact the festival at: info@dcsaff.com.

Can I volunteer for the film festival?

How can I purchase tickets?

You can purchase ticket packages from the Montgomery College website when they become available.

Can I purchase tickets at the door?

Yes. However, tickets usually sellout before the festival begins. It is advised to purchase tickets in advance. 

Can I get a refund for an already booked event?

Unfortunately, No. We do not allow exchanges or refunds. All ticket sales are final. 

I'm running late, but my ticket guarantees me a seat, right?

No. A ticket or badge only guarantees admission until 15 minutes prior to the scheduled screening. After that time, the festival reserves the right to fill any vacancies by selling rush tickets to individuals who are waiting in the rush line.

What if I lose my tickets?

Unfortunately, we cannot reprint tickets. DCSAFF is not responsible for lost, stolen, forgotten or damaged tickets. 

I missed my film. Can I get a refund?

No. We cannot refund or exchange any tickets. All ticket sales are final.

Will I have an opportunity to interact with the guests?

Absolutely! Over the course of three days, DCSAFF hosts several gala events, post-screening discussions, industry panels and exclusive networking events. 

Are all of your venues wheelchair accessible?

Yes. DCSAFF is committed to accommodating audience members with disabilities.  All screening venues and washrooms are wheelchair accessible. 

Can I bring my cell phone?

Yes. However, we ask that you switch your phone to silent mode during screenings and panels. The use of cameras or other recording devices is strictly prohibited during any screening or program. 

Patron Courtesies?

While waiting in line, please be considerate of our neighbours and local businesses, and be sure not to block their entrances.
